After A Year In Hibernation Ho-Chunk is Back in Business 0
Cat.: Uncategorized Last year in June the State Supreme Court pulled the games out of Ho-Chunk Nations Baraboo Casino. A few weeks ago the ruling was reversed and in just a few months Baraboo Casino will reopen and provide entertainment and jobs to the local community.
After closing the games at Ho-Chunk June 30 last year as a result of a State Supreme Court ruling, the games are back. The Ho-Chunk will be opening its games to the public again in a few months.
The ruling was reversed a few weeks ago which gave the Ho-Chunk Nation officials have a reason to celebrate. They announced Wednesday, August 9, roulette, craps and poker will return to their Baraboo casino.
A violation of the state and the federal constitutions made the court pull the games from Ho-Chunk.
For the Ho-Chunk Casino Executive Administrative Officer Jon Greendeer said, the ruling was a great victory for the state and the Ho-Chunk Nation.
Greendeer said, “It did provide more security in both employment and our future. It also substantiated our position that the tenets of this compact were complaint with state, federal and tribal law.”
The casino offers 2,400 slot machines, 36 blackjack tables, 11 high-stakes tables a 500-seat bingo hall, 315 guest rooms and five restaurants. According to the Ho-Chunk Nation, the casino employs about 1,300 people that will go back to work.
Greendeer said their casino provided patrons more variety and that customers would like to go back to.
Greendeer on the day the games were pulled out said, “After those games were pulled we put ourselves at a competitive disadvantage… losing those options for our guests. We”re trying to provide the best total package.” Greendeer had hoped that the casino would go back to business before the year ends.
